The Sustainable Fashion of Angelina Jolie Style: Chic, Classy & Recyclable

What do you need to know about Angelina Jolie style and her attitude to sustainable fashion industry?

Here is your guide on Angelina Jolie style!

What do we know about Angelina Jolie style? The actress has been a fashion and style icon for many years now, and her latest choices are leading the way in sustainability.

The 46-year-old actress, who we wrote about previously here, recently allowed her family to wear some of her old fashion items which means recycling rather than opting for new ones. They attended the premiere of her latest movie, Eternals, in outfits Jolie herself had previously worn. News Chain reveals one of those was the silver beaded Elie Saab gown originally worn by Jolie in 2014 at the Academy Awards.

Another recycled outfit her family has recently been seen in was a monochromatic Dior gown originally debuted on the press tour for Maleficent (part 2) in 2019.

“I think a lot of families are having conversations about sustainability, and while we haven’t made the full jump with all things in our fashion where we can upcycle, explore vintage or look at what we already have making something out of it,” she said in an interview published in Hello Magazine.

Her ethos isn’t just around sharing her outfits but also not being afraid to wear something to “death”. Many celebrities like to have a new look every time they step out, but Jolie is different and sees her fashion choices as functional and sustainable. “I invest in quality pieces and then just wear them to “death”,” she told British Vogue. “Boots, a favorite coat, a favorite purse, I don’t change things often, you know? That’s one of my things.”

The Wanted star added she felt sustainable clothing would become more important over the next few years, with additional regulations likely to be introduced which have driven her to strive for sustainable fashion today. “I imagine there’ll be more and more regulations, and I think that’s the best thing that can happen. Because even a thoughtful consumer can be conned by a good promotion of something that is not good in fact, right? Enjoying your vintage pieces, if you have them, and rediscovering some vintage shops seems like part of the way forward.’

Jolie made her first significant appearance in the 1995 film Hackers, but it was video games, rather than hacking, that helped catapult her to global fame. She starred in the 2001 film Tomb Raider as Lara Croft, a ready-made role model for females. Croft was the protagonist of the nineties video game Tomb Raider, described by Foxy Games as pioneering for its positive use of a female lead in a blockbuster game.

When Jolie picked up the role, she became the physical embodiment of Croft and instantly took on the assumed part of the female icon that came with it. Many people forget she had already won an Oscar for her role in “Girl Interrupted”, but she is best remembered for the dungeon-exploring Lara Croft.

Playing the nineties’ most iconic female video game star has given her more of a platform for her activism and sustainable fashion statements. She first witnessed the effects of a humanitarian crisis whilst filming Tomb Raider in Cambodia, which led her to become a UNHCR ambassador. She has since purchased 60,000 hectares of land in Cambodia and turned it into a wildlife reserve named the Maddox Jolie Project. She has supported women’s rights and human rights and is widely acclaimed for her work in all areas.

That is why it is not in the least bit surprising that she is turning fashion into another moral cause and, given her standing as an icon and role model, her actions are sure to have a positive effect. Perhaps it is time to check out your vintage shop and dabble in sustainable fashion?
