Light Summer vs Soft Summer: Color Analysis and Aura Color Reading
Are you wondering what the difference is between Light Summer vs Soft Summer?
This article will help you see all the misconceptions and see the truth!
I remember the summer I first truly understood the magic of color between Light Summer vs Soft Summer.
It wasn’t about simply picking pretty shades; it was about capturing a feeling, a moment in time.
Light summer stands for ephemeral beauty, the gentle whisper of a sea breeze.
When I think of a light summer color palette, my mind immediately conjures images of endless light blue skies at 6 am, sun-drenched beaches, and vibrant flora, while the sun is still not at its peak, but already bright sunbeams are getting to you through the clouds.

There’s an undeniable optimism inherent in these hues, a sense of boundless energy and carefree joy.
The psychology behind summer colors is deeply rooted in our primal connection to nature.
Light yellows evoke happiness and sunshine, reminding us of long, bright days. Soft blues whisper of calm oceans and clear skies, instilling a sense of tranquility.
Greens, in their various forms, speak of lush growth and renewal, offering a refreshing visual escape. It’s this emotional resonance that I tapped into as I began to formulate my own palette.
These colors are not only beautiful, but also they feel beautiful – inspiring serenity, lightness, and a touch of whimsy throughout my days.
The Soft Summer Palette
The defining characteristic of this palette is its muting.
These colors are not pure or intense. They are often softened with a touch of grey, creating a slightly hazy or dusty appearance.

This muting is what makes them so universally flattering for those with the Soft Summer coloring. It’s the absence of starkness, the presence of a gentle blend.
Understanding the Three Summer Seasons: To help you picture the differences
Think of a single summer day from start to finish. Light Summer is like early morning around 6 am.
The sun is just coming up, everything looks soft and hazy, and there’s a gentle mist in the air.
True Summer is the middle of the day when the sun is at its strongest. It’s hot, and the ocean is cold, and sometimes afternoon rain showers cool things down.
Soft Summer is like evening time when the sun is setting. The air gets a bit cooler, shadows grow longer, and the light becomes softer and more muted.
Seasonal Color Analysis: Light Summer Vs Soft Summer
In this analysis, I will discuss Charlene, Princess of Monaco, who was previously typed as a Light Summer, and Dakota Johnson, who was typed as a Soft Summer.

Charlene does have very delicate white skin with grey-blue eyes.
I see why people would jump to the conclusion that she is a Light Summer.
These could easily be the attributes of the Light Summer color type.
Her hair is not naturally platinum blond; it’s rather dark blond, but this hair shade actually creates a great contrast for her. It adds to her brightness very well.
She does look good in grey and pastel shades – it creates a visible serenity for her.

Both beige and deep asphalt grey make her look peaceful – that is the magic of pastel shades, they are going to make you look like at peace and more put together.

Bright baby blue vs deeply greyed-out blue shades create different effects here.
The first one is obviously the manifestation of the light summer palette blue, and take a look at how well it sits with her appearance and her bright platinum blonde.
It brightens her skin tone and emphasizes her delicate blush, while the dusty blue from a Soft Summer palette makes her look more at peace.
It works as well for her, especially with visible silver (cool-toned) jewellery in the face frame.
Both blue shades fit well, creating absolutely different effects and essences for the same person.

Overall, blue works very well for her. We can see that she is leaning towards bright colors, in which she looks like the best version of herself.
Even though she is a princess of Monaco, at certain events and occasions, she is most definitely required to look more peaceful and put together; it’s not always possible for her to wear bright colors.
Her wardrobe is carefully thought through, and colors as well, as colors can determine the way their communication is going to look.

A lovely purple-blue color, together with the silver-like earrings, creates the very essence of the light summer hues, just the one that I was describing at the beginning of the video, where it was 6 am summer fog.

One more delight to see her is very soft, delicate pastels: light grey, light dusty rose, and golden shimmers all create a magnificent effect for her delicate facial expression.
She looks like a princess, with a very aristocratic appearance, and shades like these express and emphasize that in the right manner.

Very beautiful light beige with golden shimmer blouses, light spring rosy colors, and plain beige shades – all fit her like a glove.
Take a look at the bright red ribbon, which creates a fantastic accessory and the right accent for her.

Both silver and golden shades fit her very well.

Deep golden, light soft autumn golden, and bright golden outfits – all create a great addition to her appearance.
She does look great in them. There is nothing that would contradict her skin tone.
And so, we can conclude that she is more than just a Light Summer color type.
From here, she must “jump” to more than just one, and I would assume it’s Light Summer vs Light Spring, where she can wear both cool and warm shades + the bright (occasionally Bright Spring colors as well), all depending on the current skin overtone and hormonal balance.

She looks absolutely gorgeous in squeaky white outfits – creating a pretty good contrast.
But let’s see if she can wear other bright and contrasting colors.

Pitch black right in the face frame – not a lot of seasonal color types will be able to wear that.
Most soft pastel types will struggle with that, and those who are extremely delicate won’t.
She can; she has a lot of clarity in her skin tone.

Bright red – it’s a Spring color embodiment.

Bright red and bright grassy green are all Spring colors, so we can conclude that Charlene is leaning towards a Spring type as well.
We cannot exclude these nuances, because it’s not right to limit a person to just one color palette, while she can wear lots of them.

Charlene is an “in-transition type” between Light Summer and Light Spring that will lean towards Bright Spring shades.
Dakota Johnson was previously typed as a Soft Summer; let’s see if that is actually true.

Dakota can look dramatically different, just by changing one thing – the depth of her hair tonality.

Here, in this very nice close-up, we can see that she has a beautiful, cool undertone with rosy cheeks; she has blue eyes (quite a delicate appearance, and most likely she will not tan well).
When you are a Soft Summer exclusive type, you must work well with plain grey shades.

What I can say is that she looks very good with this makeup of dusty rose lipstick and ashy eyeshadow.
However, this grey shade of her outfits is not really doing much for her. It’s not sitting like a glove.
And the issue here is her hair color, mainly. Much higher contrast suits her much better than this reddish tone.

Silver works very well for her, but it’s only because of the deep, dark chocolate brown hair color.
Only this one thing changed the whole entire appearance of her – it’s important, most of the time, whatever colors you are going to wear, if you have the right hair color, it’s going to work well for you.

Even though I think silver matches well with her skin tone and undertone, I find that the hair color intensifies the color match.
It’s almost like two absolutely different people in the picture; what really matters here is the depth of the hair color.
With this hair tonality, she will be able to wear and enjoy much more contrasting cool colors and makeup.

Here, a beautiful True Summer blue, it matches unbelievably well with her.
It 100% color matches her eye color, making it much more emphasized; you start noticing her eyes more.
It’s a good contrast for her tan, just a simple, plain gray for soft summer.

Brighter blue colors of different tonalities really create a perfect match with her eyes, hair, and cool undertone.

Black and navy blue – deep colors with a magnificent contrast to her hair.

A very good contrast of a simple white blouse and black pants – that’s exactly the basic wardrobe that she needs.

Soft summer pink looks very well against the background of her dark, contrasting hair color; the hair color is the key here.

Deep cool black color – can easily be integrated into her capsule as well.

What doesn’t work with her is warm shades, so we can confirm that none of the warm color types will be a good choice for her.

Yellow, beige, mustard yellow, and lemon yellow are all shades of Autumn type – definitely off the charts.
It creates a visual imbalance with her skin. It doesn’t fit her skin tone; nothing here actually looks good.
We can conclude that Dakota is a True Summer color type leaning towards a cooler contrast.
