People always debate about the difference between Soft Autumn & Soft Summer color palettes they always have different opinions.

These are two of the twelve seasonal color palettes used in personal color analysis.

The idea behind these palettes is that people’s natural coloring, including their skin tone, hair color, and eye color can be categorized into different “seasons.”

Soft Autumn is a warm-toned palette that features soft muted earthy shades like beige, brown, and off-white.

These colors are generally considered flattering for people with warm undertones in their skin and hair but with a softer, more muted appearance.

On the other hand Soft Summer is a cool-toned palette that includes muted soft shades of blues, greens, pinks, and the “king” color shades – greys.

This palette is often recommended for people with cooler undertones in their skin and hair but with a softer, more muted appearance than the brighter more intense Cool Summer palette.

Both Soft Autumn and Soft Summer are considered part of the “soft” or “muted” color families, which means they lack the intensity and saturation of some of the other seasonal palettes.

They still offer a range of colors that can complement and enhance the natural coloring of those who fall into these categories.

Soft Autumn and Soft Summer are two color seasons that share many similarities.

They are both considered transitional seasons and palettes, meaning they are not as intense or vibrant as some of the other seasons.

Also, they are closely related to each other in terms of their color palettes and overall aesthetic.

Both Soft Autumn and Soft Summer feature muted, soft colors that are not overly bright or saturated.

To the left side, you see the collection of Soft Summer colors, and to the right Soft Autumn.

Regarding the in-transition type, Soft Autumn and Soft Summer are both considered transitional, meaning they contain an in-transition type in between two other color seasons.

People who belong to this type of color type can easily switch between the two palettes because their colors are in transition.

This means that the colors they look best in can shift from the Soft Autumn palette and other times from the Soft Summer palette.

Moreover, they can transit to other palettes like Spring.

In this analysis, I will see Jenifer Aniston who was previously typed as a Soft Summer, Katie Holmes who was typed as a Soft Summer, and Alexa Chung as a Soft Autumn.

Let’s see if those statements are actually true.

I will start with Katie Holmes.

We can see why she was concluded as a Soft Summer.

Katie doesn’t have a strong or sharp contrast. Her contrast is adaptive, meaning she might add up darker or brighter colors as she adds on some more changes in her hair color as well as makeup.

The more her hair color becomes darker and deeper – the more she will be able to include dark contrasting makeup and consecutively darker colors in the clothes.

Otherwise, if she stays in her natural natural soft low contrast colors – she has to adapt to rather soft and neutral colors such as beige.

See how she can wear long dark brown deep chocolate hair and a rather contrasting makeup – it doesn’t weigh her appearance down.

She looks good and that means that she will be more than just one soft color type.

She is not afraid to wear black even in her face frame – it does look good.

This might change as she starts to show more signs of aging, but that will be another question in the future.

She looks marvelous in dark navy outfits with very visible dark makeup – normally that might be an issue if you are a pure Soft Summer.

They are rather too delicate to be wearing such dark colors.

Silver jewellery looks good on her as well as this silver dress.

She does look good in grey and silver, but I wouldn’t say that this is the ultimate color combo for her type.

We need to see if she gravitates to other color types.

Grey color with the admixture of blue, this is rather an anthracite grey that looks grey on her, but also let’s take the fact that she is tanned everywhere into account.

I like how dark blue works on her skin – it gives her deepness.

Baby blue colors are quite a basic color to use for every color type, don’t just jump to conclusions that she looks great in blue – she must be a Soft Summer.

So far, we have established that she looks very well in a deep dark shade of blue.

A blue with a little bit more brightness, perhaps she might even try out the spring colors.

Here she jumped from cool to warm temperatures without any issues.

Look how well these Spring colors work on her skin. That bright Spring pink and True Spring coral pink shades play a wonderful orchestra here.

Oh, doesn’t that bright color bring a sparkle to her eyes?

Bright Spring is definitely one of the palettes she will transit from time to time depending on her personal color fluctuations.

And what about Deep Autumn colors?

Burgundy fits very well – it brings calmness to her appearance and it fits well with soft low contrast.

With this color, her appearance is soft and not sharp like cold dark navy blue.

Deep Autumn is definitely one of her palettes, let’s see if there will be other Autumn colors as well for further confirmation.

Olive green and orange are the colors that fit into her low-contrast essence – she becomes calm and soft instead of sharp and standing out.

These Autumn colors are actually the colors that she looks the most comfortable with, meaning she doesn’t have to adapt them in order for the whole outfit to work for her.

She doesn’t need more contrasting makeup or hair color.

These colors fit her as well as they blend in with the softness of her appearance.

These are her basic colors – because it’s her “mother” palette.

One more reassurance with the Autumn brick orange – it fits perfectly well. If she was any kind of a Summer – this shade would look sallow on her.

This color works for her, because she has no Summer type evidence.

We can see this through different shades of orange. Orange by itself is not an easy color to deal with, especially when it comes to truly Autumnal shades with an evident warmth it them.

Look at her skin blending so well with these shades – it’s a perfect match!

Are you still doubting about the palette? Now, here there is nothing more to discuss.

The colors that you see olive brown and deep beige – are basic for her. If she was a Soft Summer these colors would be a color disaster for her.

Yes, these colors are soft, but they are not cold by any means.

Think of Bella Hadid, she is a Soft Summer. Would she wear these colors?

Forest green and mustard yellow – will never be the colors of Summer or Winter types.

They will look washed out and a bit “lost” in those. Katie Homes has quite an adaptive type which can be considered as an “in-transition type“.

The type that can use both warm and cool colors for example Soft Autumn and Soft Summer gravitating towards Soft Autumn and even True Autumn jumping to Spring occasionally.

The reason why I think she is still able to wear Soft Summer is because her appearance adapts really well – she can literally wear the majority of colors that exist from black to grey, from olive green to mustard yellow, and even bright neon pink – and she will look amazing in those.

Needless to say both shades of warm and cool yellow do fit her really well.

Soft cool and warm shades are wonderful on her.

However, I would stick to Soft Autumn as the basics. I like how she gravitates to the warm shades a little bit more than the other.

Alexa Chung was previously typed solely as a Soft Autumn. Let’s see if that is actually true.

from the very start we can see Alexa wearing golden and slver jewellery. I cannot say tat any of those look worse than the other.

We can see that Alexa does look good in grey outfits from a basic light grey to taupe grey.

She gravitates towards the warmer shades of those.

Here are complete Soft Summer palette sets of outfits with her that do look great on her.

She has absolutely no problem with wearing cool shades like Soft Summer.

They actually suit her very well. Her warm brown hair color does not interfere with the overall tonality of the coll outfit.

In fact, a lot of people who choose to go with warm brown or ginger hair color might be as well Soft Summer or True Summer types among others.

There is no such rule as only Autumn or Spring can wear warm hair tonalities. It doesn’t apply well.

Often it happens that if your appearance is a little grey and you were typing as a Soft Summer for example, it would be better for you to wear a warmer type of hair color because an ashy one might add up to the overall greyness and you will all look too grey and add more “age” to your appearance – and we are trying to avoid that.

Definitely, we cannot say that it looks off – it actually looks great on her.

We cannot solely type her as a Soft Autumn – that would be a great miss if she just stopped wearing cool colors because someone said that she has an exclusively warm undertone.

Here are some more shades of blue from light baby blue to grey and lavender blue. She can pull off all of them.

Needless to say, she looks gorgeous in navy blue – so dark colors don’t weigh her down.

Even black doesn’t ruin her appearance – she can wear it in all shapes and different cuts.

Pastel colors are one of the favorite once for her – they bring out the feminine side of her and bring some ethereal essence.

Soft Summer pinks and Soft Autumn pinks – from light baby pink to light salmon pink – all these colors are her color palette.

She does not belong to one palette, like Katie Holmes – she is an “in-transition” type who can pull off both Soft Autumn and Soft Summer.

Light Spring pink, Light salmon pink, bright pink, Soft Summer pink, Soft Autumn raspberry pink – that’s a big variety of color shades that can be used if you are not only one palette.

Mustard yellow, Autumn brick orange, bright yellow – all these colors can be used for True Autumn or if you are an Autumn transit.

You will jump from Soft Autumn to True Autumn, Deep Autumn, and occasionally to Bright Spring. And that is her personal color constellation.

Bright Spring green, True Autumn green, Soft Autumn pastel green – all the colors are basic specifically for her type.

Jeniffer Aniston – was previously typed as Soft Summer. As a Soft Summer, she looks way too good in warm beige.

Those beautiful feminine pink beige colors look way too Soft Autumn to me – in which she looks stunning.

Judging by all these pictures I can say that Aniston looks great in light pastels, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s Soft Summer grey or Soft Autumn grey.

She looks very good in light Summer – sort of the bright pastel.

Also, what plays a big role for her is the type of fabric, whether it’s a shimmery silky pastel – regardless of the warmth of the color – it will suit her.

If you compare these last two pictures – one grey on a tweed thick fabric and grey on chiffon type of fabric – you will notice that it’s not just the color that suits her or doesn’t suit her that much (I personally think that the tweed dress doesn’t suit her even though it’s a summer grey) it’s an out the type of fabrics that she is wearing.
