Learn all about these two color palettes here!

As the first thing, we need to establish the fact that warm Spring and cool Summer are two neighboring seasons and hence the palettes.

In this article, I am going to discuss True Spring on the examples of Jane Krakowski, Imogen Poots, and Hayden Panettiere. True Summer type will on the examples of Barbara Palvin and Yael Shelbia.

What’s similar between True Spring vs True Summer?

Both of these palettes are central in their own family and that means they are the most saturated and the most color enhanced from their own clusters.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRUE SPRING VS TRUE SUMMER

For example, True Summer is the central palette of the Summer family, so it sits between Light Summer and Soft Summer.

The same goes for True Spring, which is located between Light Spring and Bright Spring.

So colorwise, these two color palettes will outstand other neighbouring palettes with their color potency.

If you compare these two, you will notice that some colors will be very similar and almost impossible to differentiate at first glance.

Those would be some of the grey, green, blue, and purple colors.

Light almost or even very pastel tones have a higher probability of determining the undertone.

While the bright and saturated ones will be obvious for their chroma.

What are the differences between the True Summer vs True Spring?

And here obviously I need to mention the undertone because it is the “king” of color analysis in general.

Taking the most saturated palettes you can clearly spot the overall difference between them.

Spring would have a warm undertone while Summer would have cool undertones.

Spring would normally contain a rather yellow admixture to the main palette and Summer would have the grey or white one depending on the given color.

The contrast will remain the same for both True Summer and True Spring – low to medium. However, it’s not as simple as that.

Cool colors have the natural potency to transform into higher contrast.

And that means that if you choose to add a tone darker to your hair, makeup, or skin color – you also create a higher chance of incorporating a high contrast.

For True Summer that is easy to do because the best colors of the palette already suggest this possibility.

Then you will see the pitch black, deep burgundy, teal green, etc.

For warmer undertones, not as easy, sometimes you can use it, and sometimes or has to change black for white. We will see that in this discussion.

True Spring Color And Celebrities

When we talk about the Spring, the skin is very light, and porcelain, with a slight characteristic of pink glow on the body.

The undertone is a warm pink, blush is often vivid. With tan facial features becoming less contrasting; skin can lose its velvet sheer.

Spring eyes – grey, blue, grey-blue, green, grey-green, green-brown, brown of different lightness.

Here we have to remember that the color of eyes, veins, and hair pigmentation is not a reliable source of tone and undertone determination as has been mentioned in the previous article about 12 Seasonal Color Palettes.

Hair can be blond, dark blond, strawberry blond, or extremely rare light chestnut.

True Spring vs True Summer

True Spring Color Associations

Velvet pink and salmon pink combine beige and pink-beige tones slightly different than skin tone.

Soft burgundy implies colored dark shades in the role of black – bordeaux, eggplant, indigo, and coniferous colors.

With beige one needs to be careful with especially warm beige because it might harmonize with the skin tone and drown out the pink/red pigmentation of the skin to the surface.

If your skin type often gets red sport, it gets blushy – you are running the risk of intensifying that condition with especially light warm colors.

Silky grey – various grey shades in glare textures and noble materials like chiffon for example. Grey is not only for Sumer types.

Depending on your overall coloring, grey might actually intensify your benefits and not wash you out.

The grey color is not an absolute enemy, as the majority of people think.

Right on the contrary, and especially with a summer tan, grey might become your best friend cooling everything down just like green and blue-green colors will coll down the red pigmentation of the skin.

You need to widen your horizon by understanding the color. It’s not that if you have a warm undertone, all cold colors should be away from your wardrobe.

There is always the benefit of each color that can work for you on a different life occasion.

Lilac – a variety of light cool shades, calm pastels, or slightly dusty shades. Quite a contrast with the black dress, isn’t it?

8

Peach pastel-bleached tones look softer and more harmonious on the Spring type than rich deep vibrant colors.

Light yellow combines very light shades with a slight pastel admixture.

15

Lavender – not too dark blue, lilac, or purple shades, which will not reduce the contrast of appearance.

Yellow especially mustard yellow – is always an uneasy choice.

Depending on where this tone is leading us, whether it’s yellow + or green – you need to be careful because the conglomeration might make you look sick.

I’d rather keep this color for summer when the skin is getting bronzed.

16
17

Fresh greens mean any green shades – emerald, turquoise, herbal, minty perfectly accentuate the pink porcelain skin of the Spring.

19

Avoid dull ink shades and excessively bright flashy colors – they discolor the delicate appearance of Spring.

What colors are suggested to avoid for True Spring?

Untitled design

This is the selection of cold colors that usually stylist are advising against for Spring types, however, it shouldn’t be taken too literally.

Each and every color has its own function. Depending on the skin condition, undertone, and overtone – these colors can still be used if used with proper care and wisdom.

For example, grey or other white diluted colors such as pastels will serve well for bronzed skin during summer, while blue and green can almost camouflage the redness or pigmentation near the face, etc.

18

True Spring Contrast

Spring will benefit from neutral and pastel colors at some point as well as the highly contrasted colors which will require more expressive makeup.

Transparency

The transparency of lace, guipure, or tulle makes even the darkest colors so expressive- an excellent technique for the delicate appearance of True Spring.

You don’t have to use too sheer fabrics, just a hint of transparency – then the colors will not be dull.

Any transparency is very suitable for the delicacy of the Spring type.

Try to include transparent things in your basic wardrobe, and use any shades – thanks to transparency, they will be less dull, less bright, and less pale.

Look for the interesting translucent jersey with original details (collars, bows, cuffs) and texture (suddenly you will be attracted by light lurex), and as a bottom layer, you can wear a colored satin top – similar elegant layering suits the Spring type very well.

The Black Color

The black color makes the appearance of Spring heavier, and facial features require to be more expressive with intensive makeup.

Black can be used as accents, but instead of black clothes, it is better to choose things of other colors: purple, indigo blue, burgundy.

Black color might make you look rough, so it is better not to use near your delicate face or in small quantities or even replace it with dark-colored tones.

6

Soft contrast for the Spring type can also be expressed in a combination of matte and shimmery textures.

Delicate shine beautifully sets off the porcelain skin of True Spring, and this technique should be used not only for evening dresses but during the day – why not stand out more?

Red color

Just start wearing red – accessories, shoes, dresses, suits … Yes, everything suits you well! And, first of all, let it be red lipstick.

21

Red flawlessly looks like Spring types, it beautifies, refreshes, and energizes.

True Summer Color And Celebrities

True Summer is cold, concentrated with muted colors in appearance.

This category includes cold eye color and fair skin, and hair color – from ash blond to dark blond with ashy undertones, there may be a contrast in appearance.

True Spring vs True Summer

I would highly suggest checking out these discussions about Kate Middleton & Kate Moss types, Lizzy Kaplan and Georgina Rodriguez – there is a lot about distinguishing Summer color types.

Eyes: Blue, light blue, grey-blue, dark grey, or grey-green, greyish brown, hazel.

True Spring vs True Summer

Hair: From light blond to dark blond, often with an ashy undertone, rarely with a red undertone (but happens as well quite often).

Skin: Milky or ivory-white light skin, beige-pink, beige-grey, neutral beige.

True Spring vs True Summer

Soft dark colors are suitable for cold summer types. This palette should be chosen for outerwear, trousers and skirts, jackets, business suits, and also for shoes.

40

This palette contains deep noble tones – coal grey, grape, deep dark burgundy wine color, muted emerald, cold teal-blue, and soft blue.

30

Brown can also become one of the main tones – its shades for the True Summer color type vary from shades of coffee and cocoa to dark chocolate, the main thing is that the color is kept in a cold range.

Bright colors

Colors from the vibrant palette can be used for evening wear, accent accessories, and sportswear.

There are many berry-like shades in this palette: raspberry, cherry, blueberry, and blackberry tones.

42

Also cold green and turquoise colors, as well as soft blue and gray tones.

Light colors

Light cold tones can be used to match tops, blouses, dresses, summer trousers, and jackets – a great option for the basics.

35

The palette contains gentle, cold tones – light pink, soft lemon yellow, shades of turquoise, lavender, light grey, and blue tones.

33

You can use beige, but always cold, with a grey undertone.

32

Colors to avoid for a True Summer type?

Usually, stylists recommend a preset color palette to avoid such a cold type as a True Summer.

Here it is:

There are colors that would e dubious for each and every color type.

However, I would definitely agree that is potentially a “red zone” for almost all the types, especially for those with a greyish undertone – the yellow-mustard conglomeration.

If you are the owner of pale skin – that’s a “no-no” for you.

37

Barbara is not the type that would look good in these warm colors.

Neither the yellow-mustard suit nor the warm-colored hair tone. It doesn’t look good with the overall skin tone.

36

And once again about the hair color.

The red dress looks and fits perfectly well…however, the wrong color of the hair tone makes her look even paler, the overall look could have been so much greater if the hair was cold dark.

This warm Autumn tone requires a warmer skin tone, which is more adequate for the True Autumn type or even the Spring.

The grey undertone and cold eyes really clash with the hair tone while the color of the dress really pushes forward the red pigment to the surface.

So which colors are more suitable for Barbara?

The grey tones. Just like we were talking about Bella Hadid, who is also a Summer type, Barbara looks magnificently good in grey color, especially without makeup.
